SCI Solutions Enhances Scheduling Software Capabilities With Improved EHR Integration from Datica

Emissary® Seamlessly Provides Full Access to EHR Data in Real-Time

Overview

Text BoxSCI Solutions provides its cloud-based patient scheduling platform, Schedule Maximizer, to more than 800 hospitals and imaging centers and 12,000 physician practices in the United States. Schedule Maximizer gives hospitals and health systems the tools needed for robust care coordination with market-based scheduling services for large multi-location health care organizations. It also provides "to-do list" management, ensuring each patient’s visit goes smoothly. Schedule Maximizer enables health systems to differentiate themselves with a trusted, branded virtual front door for anytime, anywhere access to care.

The Challenge

The team at SCI was experiencing a great deal of frustration, spending hundreds of hours integrating their platform with the health systems’ electronic health records (EHRs).

“With each new client, we faced a huge undertaking to establish the VPN, secure the connection, walk through the mapping process, and make sure it was tested properly,” said Mike Lewis, Vice President of Product Management at SCI. “The integration could require nearly 1,000 hours of time and effort. We knew there had to be a better way.”

SCI needed a solution that would enable them to move away from the time-consuming task of constructing a traditional HL7 interface for each client in order to securely transmit patient data.

"With Emissary APIs, information and data flows freely and securely, allowing us to deliver optimized workflows, decreseasing our total implementation time by 65%" - Mike Lewis, VP Product Management, SCI Solutions

The Solution

In order to streamline the integration of Schedule Maximizer and enhance the patient scheduling process and workflow, SCI Solutions turned to Daticas application programming interface (API)-based solution.

Emissary seamlessly integrates with third-party applications to manage data – including information provided by EHR platforms. Leveraging APIs allows for swift integration, provides the flexibility to pull needed data and enhances the workflow for labor-intensive functions.

Datica quickly identified the APIs to enable Schedule Maximizer to integrate more quickly with EHR platforms and make the cloud-based solution more robust for patient use. Once up and running, the speed of data and communication rapidly accelerated, according to Lewis. “Not only have we reduced the time it takes to integrate and go live, SCI now has the opportunity to generate revenue more quickly. We have the right tools in place to seamlessly integrate with EHR platforms and help health systems better serve their patients.”

The Results

First and foremost, Emissary enabled SCI to reduce its software implementation time by 65% – providing SCI with a major advantage compared to previous integration options. In addition, Datica's integration team helped SCI enhance Schedule Maximizer’s availability and reliability, ensuring that data flowed smoothly and securely.

“Our clients experienced an increase in real-time transaction process, which is ideal,” said Lewis. “Data retrieval speeds are up, increasing the ability to move through records quickly.”

Lewis added that with Emissary now on board, SCI can further reduce time spent integrating new customers – improving efficiency to first-time use. By design, the API integrated with Schedule Maximizer has also helped SCI’s health care clients strengthen collaboration opportunities with both physicians and patients. By ensuring patients’ appointments are well-coordinated and efficient, their experience improves and physician’s can maximize their time each day as well.

“This is a radical improvement to our business,” said Lewis. “When our health system clients get connected to Schedule Maximizer supported by Emissary, users of the software see immediate benefits in terms of connecting with patients. And hospital IT teams discover how quickly the software integrates with EHR platforms thanks to the API technology.”
